Unspoken Tragedy of Young Boys: The Despicable Sexual Abuse Ordeal04.08.09

of Cosmic Therapy: Working with Karmic Tragedy

Sexual abuse is not a pleasant subject to deal with. No matter on which gender the abuse has occurred, the issue remains painful, complex, tragically psychologically indelibly implanted in the psyche with debilitating consequential influences remaining long after the tragic event has taken place. There are no two ways about it. It’s one of the incomprehensible travesties of life. Although I am not, in any way, diminishing the horrendous amount of hurt, shame and violence perpetrated on female victims, today my brief discussion centers around the silent, often concealed heavy secret, of sexual abuse in young boys.

According to extensive research, the matter of sexual abuse in the boy child is a well kept secret, much more so than in the case of girls. The explanations for this ‘torrid secret of the soul’ are myriad in number. Although the obvious cases are easy to recognize, it appears far too many young boys are suffering in disgraced silence and humiliated torment. Not only because of the shame associated but because of the confusion concerning the sexual identity.

Although various studies differ in number, no one actually knows the extent of those cases of abuse which are kept secret. It seems to be the trend that under-reporting of the cases is the general rule. What an indescribable indignity! Sexual abuse in young boys runs rampant throughout the world. It is not simply a national crisis but a universal one to be sure. How can one begin to understand, comprehend, dissect, and integrate the residual implications involved?

Although karma (A loosely reverent term used to offset the barriers, restrictions, consequences and punishments) certainly plays a significant role, the perceptive nuances involved in the tedious painstaking process to analyze, reabsorb, and reorient the young man remains nebulous. “Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.” So many far reaching despairing tentacles invade the mind, body and spirit of the young one (man) who suffers unwillingly and immeasurably.

Most often times, physicians, teachers, parents, friends may be totally ignorant and oblivious to the atrocious emotional ordeal these young boys have suffered. Even though Boys may have a greater tendency to act out (externalize) their emotional battered selves with disruptive behaviors of blatant violent surges in uncontrolled rage, withdrawing into caves of depressed despair, overt tendencies toward deviant behavior, with properly trained awareness, inclined interest, enforced with the ability to reach out to listen, interactive engaging meaningful trustworthy relationships can be established and entertained. Evidence supports untold cases of lying, stealing, and abusing personal property along with blatant resistant reactions to authoritative figures. Because, more often than not the young boy is so immature and does not perceive what is taking place, he builds a protective barrier of exaggerated defense in bombastic offense.

Unless given the sound opportunity to talk, verbalize conflicting emotional, physical and convoluted sexual feelings, these young boys grow into young men who are confused, angry and filled with anxiety regarding masculine identity. They will not be relaxed around other men, and show traits of anti-social behavior. It is hard for them to build trust or form intimate relationships. If they do get involved with females, the type will be overbearing, dominant and controlling. The female partners will lie, deceive and reinforce the feelings of existent insecurity, abandonment and rejection.

As has been emphasized in other writings, everything happens for reasons we can’t see. But, all things have something to do with ‘it”. During our sojourn on Earth, many so-called malicious charades will occur but we are to incorporate the experience and release the incident. So many extenuating factors are involved in the various sexually committed offenses. As Paul so aptly stated “…I see through a glass darkly, but in time I shall things clear…” (Paraphrased)

This is an original poem, depicting the paralyzing, haunting, immobilizing agonizing secret of physical pain, sexual abuse, neglect and shame, I wrote since I feel so strongly about the issue.

Small but Tall

The little boy hid his head

When the teacher called his name

Skinny arms showed the bones

How life was not a game

Feeling stupid dazed embarrassed, too

Frozen on the spot of dread

All went blank in the world

Of a child a little less than dead

Fear sealed his mouth stripped the sound

No answer was to come

He sat alone stalked and drained

What else could be done?

Brown eyes turned down head peeled away

Dread like heavy lead appeared

As the teacher once more called his name

His heavy heart swelled to sink

In the moment when he could not think

He shut his eyes he would not blink

The sky turned grey sun shot to death

While his mind raced like a psychopath

Breath slowed thoughts did not quit

Answer snatched away, she dared solicit

Tear filled eyes face so racy pink

Taunted boy so much on the brink

Others laughed, jeered and mocked

Fever pushed his head in shock

An endless moment of ill repose

The rape occurred deep down in his toes

His heart froze up pumped no blood

Memories soaked in moist grey mud

She’d never understand why he did refuse

But, if she’d ever walked a mile

In the flat soles of his shoes

She’s resign herself to words unsaid

While observing all the clues

But, deep inside, he masked the pain

Silent dignity in tact covered all the shame

He knew, with time and chance on his side

One day he’ be strong enough to rise with the tide

To change the world with inference

He gasped a sigh of raw indifference

Claiming the brunt of his defiant acts

Compensated by life’s raw unaided facts

It did not matter what he said

His fated course decided in a harrowed bed
